The Playtex strategic business unit, which is a division of Energizer PersonalCare, is a leading manufacturer and distributor of a diverse portfolio ofconsumer and personal products. Playtex is focused on Feminine Care products,including Gentle Glide and Sport tampons; Infant Care products, includingspill-proof cups, baby bottles, pacifiers, and Diaper Genie; Sun Care products,including Banana Boat, Hawaiian Tropic, and Alpha to Omega brands; and Skin Careproducts, including Wet Ones and Gloves.
Create and develop innovative, insight-driven and technically-sound productconcepts to meet the needs of the Infant Care 5-year product pipeline.Demonstrate proof-of-principle for product concepts sufficient to transferprojects into the feasibility phase of the product development process.
� Generate innovative product ideas or concepts based on consumer insight andsound engineering principles. Engineering design/modeling/analysis and prototypedevelopment of product concepts to demonstrate technical feasibility and gatherconsumer feedback.
� Develop and execute technology development plan for projects. Partner withindustrial designers, laboratory staff and technical staff where applicable.
� Partner with Consumer Insights group to develop and support the execution ofconsumer learning plans to achieve business objectives. Participate in consumerresearch to uncover unmet needs and evaluate product concepts and prototypes.
� Partner with the Product Development team to ensure effective translation ofproduct concepts into final product designs. Ready product concepts for transferinto feasibility phase of the product development process.
� Attend Trade/Industry Shows mining for new product ideas
� Keep abreast of existing and new technologies that are applicable to areas ofresponsibility. Monitor relevant consumer and product trends.
� Manage IP (intellectual property) within areas of responsibility.
� Presentation of work to R&D management and multi-functional team.
� Minimum of Bachelor�s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent; otherdegrees with product design experience considered.
� Minimum of 5 years in the design and development of products in consumerpackage goods, medical devices, or similar. Front End of Innovation experiencehighly desirable.
� Proficiency in ProEngineer, Solidworks, or equivalent engineering designsoftware.
� Design and fabricate models and prototypes of product concepts in variousforms (rapid prototype, machining, casting, injection molding, etc.).
� Solid engineering design skills, including mechanical and/orelectro-mechanical systems, mechanisms, structures, sealing systems, and others.
� Hands-on prototyping skills
� Provides translation between consumer needs and technical requirements.Provides innovative technical solutions that satisfy end user requirements.
� Familiar with various manufacturing processes and mold types (e.g. injectionmolding, blow molding, assembly methods, decoration methods, mono and multilayer film processing knowledge a plus, etc.)
� Must have the ability to manage third party relationships (e.g. outsideproduct design consultants, inventors, suppliers, etc.)
� Must be knowledgeable of plastic part design, plastic materials and processes.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT SKILLS:
� Must have the ability to prioritize and organize workload on multiple programsof medium complexity.
� Must have the ability to manage assigned projects, monitoring the status ofall elements affecting the outcome of the program.
� Must have the ability to guide laboratory support personnel or interns asrequired to accomplish a task.
� Must have the ability to clearly communicate technical and non-technicalinformation via verbal presentation and in writing with management, team membersand support personnel with normal supervision.
