Position Summary

The Category Development Manager is responsible for developing strong relationships with Wal-Mart by providing category solutions based on business trends, industry trends and category management expertise. This role will also work on developing insightful and actionable reporting, analysis and selling story presentations based on key category trends. Finally, the Manager, Category Development will lead the development and process of category line reviews and be the expert in Wal-Mart’s category and key strategic leader to assist with the development of their strategies.

Accountabilities

· Category / Industry Expert

· Leads assessment, analysis, & insight generation

· Direct account responsibility with regular ongoing customer face-to-face meetings

· Owns category management / analytics

Specific Accountabilities

· Category leader with customer to help develop category strategy based on insights and market trends

· Develop partnership relationships (Category Advisorship)

· Presentation development

· Monthly Reviews/Formal Category Reviews

· Manage Category Reset & Modular Building Process

· Conduct competitive analysis that identifies competitor strategies, strengths and weaknesses

Required Skills and Experience

· Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

· 3+ years' of customer facing Category Management or Category Advisorship experience calling on Walmart or Sam’s Club

· Experienced in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Power Point, Access)

· Developing & delivering compelling selling stories / presentations

Preferred Skills and Experience

· Degree in Marketing/Business Administration

· Advanced Retail Link skillset

· Advanced experience with JDA space planning software

· Syndicated Data (AC Nielsen or IRI)

· Project Management / Prioritization

Working Relationships & Environment

· Customer (Buyer, Senior Buyer, Category Management, etc) - Primary

· Sales, Sales Planning, Brand Marketing, Shopper Activation, & Retail – Secondary

· Reports to Sr. Manager, Category Development

Working Environment

· Travel Requirements (up to 10%)
