Energizer Lab Technician (Technologist) in Dayton, Ohio

Position Summary

As a Technologist in Energizer’s Global Auto Care R&D Team, you will work with a team to perform laboratory experimentation and testing of products for this innovative and exciting business. You will provide a key role to continually improve the cost, quality, and manufacturability of our industry leading products. The position, based in Dayton, Ohio will provide support of our Global Auto Care brands such as Armor All, STP, and A/C Pro.

Responsibilities

  • Learns how to use all lab scale equipment and related SOP's for batching, testing and quality purposes including operation of lab equipment such as surface tensiometer, viscometer, and mixer/blender

  • Prepares samples for qualitative and quantitative evaluation and performs testing of containers, valves, and gauges to assess quality and performance

  • Develops an understanding of product fundamentals including relationship between process, raw materials and other interactions taking place

  • Provides formulation assistance: calculates amount of ingredients needed for various batch requirements, weighs raw materials as determined by formula requirements for batch preparation, combines and processes weighted ingredients, and records all notable characteristics

  • Work with cross functional partners to communicate test results, status, and address questions

  • Identifies and implements continuous improvement measures and serves on project teams as needed

  • Completes assigned laboratory safety and operation duties such as waste disposal and inventory management

What we are looking for

  • Minimum 3 years of pertinent college course work or equivalent experience/education and a good fundamental understanding of higher-level chemistry, mathematics, and laboratory practices

  • 5+ or more years of demonstrated related experience in a technical laboratory or similar environment

  • Experience in product related consumer product testing

  • Bachelor’s in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or other relevant scientific field (preferred)

  • Interfaces with engineers and managers for direction and guidance

  • Works with and provides significant guidance to coworkers as necessary

  • Interfaces with other internal functions (i.e. plant engineering, quality, maintenance, marketing, operations), outside suppliers, and third party manufacturers to acquire necessary information and services

  • Will work in in a technical laboratory environment within an industrial manufacturing setting

  • Able to perform repetitive manual tasks requiring hands, stand for extended periods of time, and lift 35 lbs

  • Exposure to health risks or conditions that may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment

  • Able to cope in a demanding fast paced laboratory environment.
