Position Summary

As Packaging Development Manager for Energizer's Global Auto Care division, you will manage a team of packaging engineers to deliver packaging solutions for a robust pipeline of innovative automotive aftermarket products for this fast paced and exciting business.  This role leads and manages the packaging development function with strong technical leadership and knowledge of packaging materials and manufacturing processes. Projects include all aspects of packaging from primary package through shipper cases, unit load, and POP displays, beginning as early as conception through implementation to full national production.


  • Lead technical development of package component needs including all aspects of packaging - from primary package through shipping cases, unit load and point-of-purchase displays

  • Own the process with packaging suppliers to address project, consumer, manufacturing and transportation requirements

  • Manage the design packages and displays that are visually compelling, functional, cost-effective, and able to efficiently move through the supply chain

  • Partner with Product Development and Manufacturing, optimizing product/package compatibility at the manufacturing location to ensure supply chain success

  • Provide technical package leadership, ensuring the appropriate amount of rigor is used, on multi-disciplined project teams and be involved throughout the life of commercialization projects

  • Qualify and design packaging components and container-closure systems

  • Understand and apply packaging laws and guidance's

  • Drive the creation of a broad exclusionary strategy (IP) when/where applicable

  • Manage a team of Packaging Engineers

Specific Accountabilities

  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree (4 year undergraduate) in Mechanical, Chemical, Packaging Engineering or another related technical field required

  • 7+ years of previous experience in packaging development or related packaging industry

  • Managerial experience demonstrating strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills to work in a collaborative team environment

  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills

  • Work independently and manage multiple projects in a timely manner

  • Work with multi-functional teams and effectively interface with external partners

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG) and Package/Product development

  • Project Management experience

  • Working knowledge of bottles, triggers, flexible cartons and corrugate

Working Relationships & Environment

Working Relationships

  • Direct supervisory accountability for engineers and/or technicians

  • Reports directly to Sr. Manager Global Packaging Development, Sr. Leader of Global Auto Care or other member of Management

  • Collaborates with other functions closely - Marketing and Commercial teams, Operations, R&D, Quality Assurance, Engineering, Procurement

  • Engages with external suppliers

Work Environment

  • Working conditions are normal for an office/manufacturing/R&D environment.

  • Travel requirements up to 25%
