Position Summary

Energizer’s R&D Auto Care team is seeking a primary packaging engineer to develop and evaluate new containers and application technologies for new and existing auto care products. You will work with a global, cross-functional team that includes internal scientists and external suppliers to enhance our products. Primary packaging experience with liquid consumer products and an understanding of manufacturing processes are preferred.

The position, based in Dayton, Ohio, is a part of Energizer’s Auto Care business, a customer-focused, innovation-oriented, fast-growing consumer packaged goods company. Energizer is passionate about making time in the car more enjoyable with market-leading brands of car air fresheners, cleaning, and conditioning products.

Accountabilities

The position supports existing automotive brands including Armor All, Eagle One, STP, Lexol, and A/C Pro by providing technical engineering support of product containers and applicators (ie bottles, spray triggers). Product support includes liquids, aerosols, refrigerants and applicators such as triggers and pumps. Specific accountabilities are listed below.

  • Lead container and applicator development for new products, working with internal cross-functional team members, and provide technical direction for design agencies and suppliers to deliver innovative new packaging and products

  • Define and conduct container testing to ensure readiness for production, distribution, customer and consumer fit for use. Will perform hands-on bench-scale testing.

  • Plan, Execute, Analyze and summarize plant trials working closely with Manufacturing, engineering, and production site technical resources. Will work closely with production process and colleagues.

  • Contribute innovative ideas leading to the development and application of new container technologies and solving consumer application-related challenges

  • Maintain accurate, complete and detailed records including performance-based packaging specifications

  • Support package technical support organization as needed to resolve packaging supply chain or production technical issues

  • Practice proper safety procedures, provide leadership to others in key result areas, and participate in continuous improvement activities, serving as a team member as required.

  • May supervise and develop non-exempt colleagues and provide annual appraisals of their performance and developmental feedback

Required Skills and Experience

  • BS. or M.S. in Engineering or Science or equivalent work experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • BS Degree in Packaging Science

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of industrial or equivalent work experience with consumer and/or industrial products.

  • Experience developing and testing containers and applicators (liquids, aerosols, triggers) as well as the container development process and testing from concept to implementation

Working Relationships & Environment

Reports to R&D Manager. Key relationships will include R&D team, Marketing, Procurement External Suppliers, and Operations groups.

Work Environment

Travel up to 10% is required. The employee will also be expected to participate in occasional teleconference meetings with global colleagues in different time zones.
