Position Summary

As a R&D Manager in Energizer’s Global Auto Care R&D Team, you will lead a team of engineers to develop and implement product improvements key to maintaining our industry leading position. You will provide a key role in leading a culture of continuous improvement by collaborating with cross functional partners including marketing, procurement, operations, and quality assurance. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in leading technical resources to develop and implement consumer product improvement projects.

The position is based at Energizer’s Auto Care plant in Dayton, OH. Energizer is a customer-focused, innovation-oriented, consumer packaged goods company. Energizer is passionate about making time in the car more enjoyable with market-leading brands such as Armor All, Lexol, Eagle One, STP, A/C Pro, Refresh Your Car, Driven, Bahama & Co., and California Scents.

Accountabilities

The position supports automotive cleaning and conditioning brands including Armor All, Eagle One and Lexol as well as air freshener, performance, and refrigerant brands such as Refresh Your Car, STP, and A/C Pro. The position will lead and coordinate product improvement projects and a maintain a robust project roadmap to deliver ongoing improvement of cost, quality, and supply assurance for our industry leading product range. Specific accountabilities are noted below:

  • Lead a team of Engineers to develop and implement product cost and/or performance improvements which meet time, cost, and performance objectives

  • Support supply surety strategy and projects

  • Set the strategic plan for for R&D including developoing a roadmap of ongoing product improrvement which will further strengthen our portfolio of products for our $100M+ revenue business

  • Interact with cross-functional team including marketing, procurement, legal, and external third parties such as global suppliers and contract manufacturers to reach objectives.

  • Refine our internal processes and ways of working to optimize efficiency

  • Track projects and manage projects from conception to launch and ensure on time project delivery.

  • Provide project leadership and communicate updates across cross-functional teams and to senior leadership

Provide technical guidance to cross functional teams (Marketing, Commercial, Procurement, Operations)

  • Must possess ability to comprehend business objectives and work independently to solve problems in the most efficient manner possible

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5 or more years of technical managerial experience with a track record of product improvement.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage direct reports and experience supervising a team of four or more individuals.

  • Minimum of a BS in chemistry, engineering, or other relevant scientific discipline required.

  • Strong knowledge of product development systems and tools required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.

  • Excellent communication and organization skills, ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Related technical experience with consumer goods products

  • Stage Gate Protocol, Design for Six Sigma, Statistics and Design of Experiments.

  • Project Management

  • Root Cause Analysis

Working Relationships & Environment

Reports to R&D Sr Manager. Key relationships will include R&D team, Marketing, Procurement External Suppliers, and Operations groups.

Work Environment:

Travel, including international, up to 25% is required. The employee will also be expected to participate in occasional teleconference meetings with global colleagues in different time zones.
