Position Summary

The Senior Engineer, Controls is responsible for advanced line support to maintain production performance, site capital project management, support engineering in major initiatives and new product development, and lead Electrical and Controls strategy and education for the division. This position reports to the Engineering Manager and works closely with shop operators, maintenance technicians, Division support services, and Plant and Corporate Leadership.

Accountabilities

  • Provides Safety Leadership to site

  • Lead advanced electrical and control trouble shooting guidance for maintenance and production employees to solve day-to-day problems and implement solutions to meet safety, quality, and production objectives.

  • Lead development and execution of projects as PM, Project Engineer, Subject Matter Expert

  • Focus on equipment / systems upgrades in safety, quality, cost reductions, productivity.

  • Full Scope Management / Reporting- Development, Justification, Approval, Design, Procurement, Construction, Commission, Start-up, Training, Closure

  • Provide discipline support to cross functional teams:

  • Major division and corporate projects

  • New Product Initiatives / Introductions

  • Electrical and Control Leadership for the Division

  • Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the company

  • Mentor and development of operator, maintenance, and technician electrical and control skill sets.

  • Complete administrative responsibilities including meetings, reports, goals, training, budgets, financials, and expenses to targets and expectations.

Specific Accountabilities

  • A bias for action, quick learning, self-motivation, and project management skills.

  • Ability to design processes and find solutions to process problems

  • Utilize lean manufacturing principals and processes to maximize efficiency

  • Coordinate plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities

  • Retain current working knowledges of codes and practices

  • Advanced troubleshooting of all industrial controls systems: PLCs, HMIs, vision systems, frequency drives, motion control, load cells, AC/DC motors, etc.

  • Ability to program and debug PLC’s (Allen Bradley RS Logix 500 and 5000)

  • Design and implementation of in-house process improvements including AutoCAD electrical prints, and programing PLC and HMIs.

  • Prepare justification, bids, and contracts, and direct the negotiation of capital contracts

  • Support the specific development, design review and validation of purchased equipment.

  • Plan and direct the installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities and equipment

  • Direct, review, and approve product design and changes

  • Develop and lead electrical control strategy for site

  • Develop and lead electrical and control education program

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s (4-year undergraduate) degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent discipline

  • 5-10 years of high-speed packaging, line controls, batching, robotics experience

  • Electrical power distribution design, maintenance, & troubleshooting

  • Electrical / Control Safe Work Practices: NEC, OSHA, Arc Flash, Short Circuit, LOTO, Guarding

  • Industrial controls systems design, program, maintenance, troubleshooting: PLCs, HMIs, vision systems, including frequency drives, motion control, load cells, AC/DC motors.

  • Basic read / create mechanical, hydraulic, electrical schematics

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical design and fabrication

  • AUTOCAD Proficiency

  • Microsoft Office Suite, including Project

  • Project Design, Development, Execution

  • Project Management

  • Electrical and Control Mentoring and Development

  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills

  • Cross-functional team leadership to accomplish objectives

  • Mentoring / Development of Operators, Maintenance, Electrical Technicians

  • Consultant and Contractor Management

  • Business Financial and Project Management Skills

  • Allen Bradley RS Logix 500/5000 Programming Certification

  • Industrial Robotics

  • A/I Applications

  • PMP Certification

  • Six Sigma Black / Green Belt

  • Lean Manufacturing Techniques
