As a Sr. Package Development Engineer with Energizer - Global Auto Care business, you will work with a team of scientists and engineers to deliver packaging and/or display solutions for a robust pipeline of innovative automotive aftermarket products for this fast paced and exciting business. The packaging engineer supports the R&D, and Engineering departments with knowledge of packaging components, materials and there manufacturing processes. Projects beginning at conception through full nationwide launch, will include all aspects of packaging; unit and case packaging, unit loading, including POP displays and their development
You will be an active member of cross-functional teams to implement projects while working with vendors, plants, and co-packers to assure package components are of a high quality, sustainable, and efficiently produced on packaging lines.
Manage assigned Package Development projects, working with Brand and project teams, to meet category objectives and project ship dates.
Hold discussions during packaging team meetings; communicate technical issues and details to the project team and management.
Provide packaging options. Develop, engineer and test packaging components and modify as necessary to meet customer requirements, functional. parameters, cost targets, manufacturing and shipping requirements.
Provide technical input to package design process and assure package designed for manufacturing acceptability.
Execute new package designs and perform package component testing and qualification, working with suppliers, from engineering prints to making models/prototypes, through to unit and production tooling.
Work effectively with Package Development (Specialist and Technicians) and Operations to assure creation of timely functional specifications.
Develop strong relationships and communicate effectively to manage projects with Marketing, Procurement, Logistics, Operations, Engineering/R&D, and Suppliers.
Keep abreast of developments across appropriate packaging and manufacturing technologies.
Must be able to effectively organize and manage workflow of multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment.
Required Skills and Experience
Bachelors - BA/BS in Packaging or related science
3-5 years’ experience in Packaging Development and/or Design, preferably with sustainable packaging materials and processes within the consumer goods industry.
Knowledge of packaging components and properties such as; bottles (blow molding), films (thermoforming), paperboard (cards, folding cartons), corrugated materials.
Experience dealing with packaging material suppliers
Experience with performing standard test methods, such as ASTM and eCommerce protocols
Experience in the use of Microsoft Office
Preferred Skills and Experience
CPG Industry experience
2-D and 3-D drafting experience (AutoCAD and Solidworks)
Design Software (ArtiosCAD)
Palletization software (TOPS)
Understanding and/or exposure to a stage or toll gate style of project management.
Must be thorough and exercise attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
Must be able to set and maintain schedules.
Previous knowledge in extrusion blow molding and injection molding processes of bottle development or related packaging industry, preferably with consumer products.
Experience with consumer goods labeling of various types within a production environment
Working Relationships & Environment
Position will report through the Packaging Development Manager.
Regular duties and project work will include interaction with various functional departments (Such as Procurement, Logistics, Marketing, and Engineering/R&D), and material suppliers.
Must be capable of quickly establishing relationships both internally and externally.
Must be a highly credible individual.
Must exhibit a true sense of urgency in responding to customers.
Collaboration with counterparts (Packaging Engineers and Packaging Technicians) is critical.
Domestic travel may be required as needed.
Work schedule may require flexibility in support of 24/7 plant operations.
Must be capable of lifting up to 35 lbs
