Position Summary

Achieve assigned objectives within our quality systems and product quality areas to improve value in our products. Provide support to development and implementation teams in translating and integrating new or improved products. Apply knowledge of our products and processes to help resolve manufacturing and design problems. Assess our product quality to ensure quality expectations are being met and that negative trends are addressed. Assess supplier’s quality systems and products to minimize risk of shipping non-conforming product to Energizer. Recommend and drive changes to sustain and improve our quality competencies and capabilities.

Accountabilities

Operations and QC Support

Lead the assessment of product quality metrics to ensure product quality expectations are being met in assigned area. Recommend and participate in the execution of product and process improvements as identified through the metrics reviews.

Recommend improvements to quality systems (such as process documentation, change management, calibration, in-process quality control, raw material quality, traceability systems, post-production testing).

Participate in or lead Energizer internal quality systems audits or assessments.

Support cultural transformation of operations ownership of quality.

Support problem-solving efforts involving the quality of our products.

Product Development and Product Cycle Plan Support

Coordinate with R&D and others to define, execute and evaluate comprehensive experiments & trials and then draw conclusions & make recommendations necessary to meet the project’s objectives.

Facilitate the documentation of new products or processes specifications, design intents, raw material specifications, standard work procedures/process specifications, analytical test methods.

Champion project risk mitigation using tools like FMEA analysis and stage-gate protocols to ensure project quality objectives are met.

Sourcing and Supply Support

In coordination with Purchasing, participate in quality audits for maintaining qualification of approved suppliers of materials and finished goods.

Provide ongoing supplier oversight through the use of Energizer’s supplier quality software for monitoring supplier performance and preparing supplier scorecards.

Participate in qualifications for products, processes, and new suppliers of raw materials.

Quality Skills and Knowledge Development

Expand knowledge and skill in the areas of the process (equipment and materials), quality systems and product design.

Participate in Quality tool and system development training and certification; also keep abreast of external development of new Quality tools, innovations, and approaches to propose applications to assigned tasks.

Commercial Support

Provide information pertaining to the quality characteristics of Energizer products to the commercial organization.

Coordinate efforts to understand and remedy internal and external customer questions and complaints.

Specific Accountabilities

Scope of work is within the Auto Care Category of Energizer within North America.

Required Skills and Experience

EDUCATION: BS or higher in a technical field (such as engineering or science).

EXPERIENCE (YEARS/TYPE): Minimum 5 years in Quality or Process Engineering role(s) in a manufacturing environment. May include relevant experience in an R&D role that had significant interaction in a manufacturing environment.

DEMONSTRATED SKILLS : English, written and oral competency. Successful experience applying quality problem-solving techniques (such as 5-why, Ishikawa, K-T, 8-D).

TASK MANAGEMENT : Demonstrated ability to manage and meet deliverables for multiple projects or assignments at one time. Ability to work independently with assigned tasks or develop action plans on own.

Preferred Skills and Experience

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE : Application of statistical process control systems and interpretation of such information; quality systems auditing in a manufacturing environment, supplier quality management, MS Office applications (esp. Excel and PowerPoint). Familiarity with quality management system principles (ISO-9001 or other commonly used systems).

EXPERIENCE (YEARS/TYPE) : 5 years or more in Quality or Process Engineering Role. Progressive accountabilities and relevant experience with consumer goods and high-speed manufacturing.

Working Relationships & Environment

The Quality Assurance Engineer reports to the Corporate Quality Organization and works with limited guidance in many situations. The QA engineer works closely with other personnel including R&D, Engineering, Operations, QC, Marketing, and Procurement. The QA Engineer may have direct contact with Suppliers and Customers.

Work Environment

  • Travel Requirements, up to 10%.

  • Physical requirements, up to 50% on the production floor. The remainder in an office/lab environment.

  • Work schedules may vary from typical business hours.

  • Exposure to health risks or conditions that may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment.
