Energizer Machinist in Fennimore, Wisconsin

Position Summary

We are currently looking for candidates for a Maintenance Machinist to work on 12 hour night shifts (7 shifts during a 14 calendar day period). Qualified candidates will be able to Set up and operate variety of metalworking machine tools, such as manual and CNC lathe, milling machine, shaper, or grinder to machine parts to specifications; Calculate and set controls to regulate machining, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media; and, Measures and examines completed parts to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications. Knowledge of computers and machine software programs a plus.


  • Interface with Engineers, Mechanics, Supervisors, and Operators through the process of troubleshooting and problem solving

  • The Machinist has a basic responsibility to insure that the quality of the work meets established standards and specifications.

  • High standards of housekeeping are to be practiced and maintained by the Machinist at all times. The Machinist, due to the nature of the job and particular circumstances at the time, may be called upon by their supervisor to perform other tasks in connection with their jobs which may overlap with others. It is understood that in instances of this nature, the tasks as assigned will be performed in the best interest of the plant.

Specific Accountabilities

  • A Machinist must be capable of setting up and operating all of the machine tools used in a tool room or Maintenance Department. This includes lathes, shapers, planers, milling machines, boring machines, surface and tool grinders, etc.

  • Work to industry standard tolerances where complicated setups are involved and the degree of precision is hand controlled.

  • Make machine parts and repairs and assemble, alter or construct machines.

  • Select the correct materials and plan the sequence of operations (including the choice of the best available equipment) needed to complete the work.

  • Analyze frequently the operation of complex machines and equipment and determine the necessary improvements to enable them to perform at maximum efficiency.

  • Set up proper preventative maintenance procedures with the Maintenance Planner for work to be done. Initiate drawing changes with dimensional sketches for equipment modifications or improvements.

  • The Machinist should be capable of machining a wide variety of complicated parts for machines, tools, dies, fixtures and gauges, and heat treating.

  • The Machinist should be able to work from sketches, samples, prints and written or oral specifications. The Machinist must be familiar with the correct speeds and feeds required for machining and have a working knowledge of the properties of common metals.

  • A Machinist should have sufficient integrity to be able to design and fabricate simple devices with minimum guidance, after being given an outline of what is required.

  • It is required that the Machinist be "safety minded" at all times

Required Skills and Experience

Must be able to demonstrate proven hands-on experience in the following:

  • Product Inspection – Inspecting and evaluating the quality of products

  • Operation Monitoring – Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly

  • Operations Analysis – Analyzing needs and product requirements to create a design

  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills a must. Demonstrated experience in working within a multi-disciplinary team in a fast paced, technically challenging environment.

  • Associate Degree in Machine Tool and Die is preferred or a minimum of two years manufacturing environment

Working Relationships & Environment

  • Physically able to stand for extended periods of time

  • Able to lift up to 50lbs

  • Knowledgeable and competent in safety disciplines stipulated by OSHA

  • Candidate must be able to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics

  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Wear all personal protective equipment (i.e., hearing protection, safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, etc.) in areas where they are required.
