Position Summary

Provide supervision and direction to 20-35 employees in the production and finishing of various sizes of alkaline batteries.  Assist Production Manager in directing the operation to meet production schedules while maintaining efficient operations, quality standards, standard costs and employee safety.


  • Understand and demonstrate safe work practices. Focus on maintaining a safe work environment.

  • Organize and direct production, finishing and shipping activities as assigned.

  • Working knowledge and understanding of production process, materials, and equipment flow.

  • Basic knowledge of alkaline cell systems, assembly methods, processes and equipment.

  • Working knowledge and understanding of raw materials; their use, handling and storage.

  • Initiate and recommend methods of programs for elimination of variances in efficiency, scrap, rework, performance and downtime.

  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Specific Accountabilities

  • Understanding and enforcement of Company policies, procedures and safety regulations.

  • Understanding and enforcement of the collective bargaining agreement while developing a spirit of cooperation and good morale.

  • Provide management skills in maintaining orderly production activity, routine communications, performance appraisals, job orientation, training, motivating, counseling and administering discipline.

  • Provides support to all direct reports and staff to ensure that they have all of the necessary resources to perform their duties.

  • Analyze and resolve work problems and assist workers in solving work problems.

  • Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.

  • Develop teamwork and group spirit in a way that successfully carries out management's intentions and directives.

  • Maintain accurate time reporting to insure the integrity of labor distribution and payroll.


Required Skills and Experience

  • Two or more years in a production supervision related role

  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in MS Office. Knowledge of SAP desirable.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Attention to detail, initiative and ability to implement decisions with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to learn quickly.

  • Ability to work the Night Shift

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university preferred; or five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Strong organizational and teamwork skills and ability to prioritize and manage time to keep multiple initiatives effectively moving forward.

Working Relationships

  • Reports to the plant production manager.

  • Interacts with hourly colleagues, engineering, quality and plant staff.

Work Environment

  • Must be willing to work in production environment.

  • Exposure to machines, chemicals, flammables.

  • Must wear appropriate personal protection as required by plant safety standards.

  • Regularly required to stand and frequently walk throughout the plant operations.
