Position Summary

The Planner coordinates, negotiates, plans and administers the procurement of materials, tools, equipment, supplies, and services essential to the continuous operation of the facility.

Accountabilities

  • Coordinates the procurement of raw materials including requisitions, ordering, follow-up, inventory management, request for quotation, obsolescence, price variance and rejections/complaints.

  • Manages materials to support the production schedules while striving to achieve material inventory goals.

  • Assists in scheduling production operations using SAP and other planning tools.

  • Communicates information to Operations, material handlers, quality inspection, and warehouse concerning material changes, safety stock levels and material outages.

  • Collaborates with Quality, Marketing and other cross-functional teams to facilitate the completion of “Go to Markets” for packaging changes.

  • Monitors and improves pull supermarkets through resizing, auditing, and working with suppliers to implement additional items on pull to achieve desired inventory goals while meeting customer needs.

  • Resolves material issues, including inventories, shortages, delivery delays and quality issues.

  • Initiates and coordinates material cost reduction efforts.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Associates Degree or 2 Years administrative or clerical experience

  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office, SAP or other computerized systems; ability to learn quickly

  • Must demonstrate the following attributes: Strong organizational and teamwork skills; effective oral and written communication skills; attention to detail; ability to handle and prioritize tasks; initiative; ability to make decisions.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Working knowledge of SAP, Excel or other computerized systems.

  • Previous experience working with suppliers, planning and ordering of materials and supplies, contract administration.

  • Experience in the application of lean principles.

Working Relationships & Environment

Working Relationship:

  • Reports directly to the Operations Value Stream Manager or Leader.

  • Collaborates with Production, Engineering, Product Development, Accounting, Purchasing and Supply Chain.

  • Works closely with the Finite Scheduler and Value Stream Leader/Manager to understand priorities and production plans.

  • Develops and maintains relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers.

  • Membership on internal and external teams to achieve continuous improvement.

Work Environment:

  • Team-based environment that encourages colleague ownership and empowerment.

  • Office and interaction on the production floor.

  • Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required by plant safety standards.

  • Occasional travel may be required.
