Position Summary

Within the International Trade Development team, the Sr. Manager, Category Development serves as a key strategic leader assisting in the development of strategies that will drive Energizer sales as well as category growth for the retailers and distributors. S/he will help International market teams “Win more decisions” with customers by:

  • Developing and championing ‘winning’ Category Strategies and selling stories for Energizer’s Battery, Flashlights and Autocare categories

  • Leveraging compelling insights and analytics through fact-based, persuasive selling

  • Providing insight-based category and shopper strategies and solutions based on business trends and category expertise


  • Demonstrates category thought leadership

  • Leads the development of Category Management tools and resources which position Energizer as the leading category management partner with key retailers.

  • Develops insightful and actionable analysis, reports and presentations and collaborates with International Marketing in the annual planning and deployment process for Modern, Developing and Distributor trade groups

  • Supports critical International customer category reviews and presentations as the category and shopper expert

  • Supports the development of marketing and customer cycle plans

Specific Accountabilities

  • Team leadership and development – providing vision, direction and coaching to a team of three International Category Managers (Batteries, Flashlights and Autocare)

  • Champions the Category Vision and Strategy process for Batteries, Flashlights and Autocare

  • Through direct reports, leads the elevation of Category Strategy with highest possible level of standardization

  • Where necessary, customizes International category presentations in order to deliver market-ready category leadership plans for Developing & Distributor trade groups

  • Guides and coaches team to leverage a broad range of shopper and category insights to proactively deliver best in class, fact-based category plans which align with Energizer strategies to achieve business goals

  • Supports Global Visibility (Marketing) teams in development of Category shelf organization principles

  • Ensures the effective and actionable communication of Energizer Category Management best practices

  • Champions Category Management training across the International organization

  • Manages 3 rd party providers (e.g. POG software provider) in developing a ‘continuous improvement’ philosophy towards delivering category management tools and resources

Required Skills and Experience

  • Degree or above in Business Studies, Marketing or similar discipline

  • 10 year+ successful track record of working in consumer products trade marketing and/or category management

  • People management and team leadership

  • Solid understanding of the role of Insights, Analytics and Shopper Marketing in Category Management

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication and presentation skills

  • Strong computer skills in spreadsheets, databases and presentation software

  • Good knowledge and experience of syndicated data (ACN, GfK, IRI)

  • Demonstrated competencies in collaboration, teamwork, critical thinking and achieving results in alignment with business goals

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Multilingual (English plus any additional language)

  • Experience of International markets

  • Financial acumen

  • Cultural sensitivity

Working Relationships & Environment

  • Reports to Senior Director, International Trade Development. Key relationships internally will include the International marketing teams, Global Category Marketing teams, country Business Directors, International Leadership Team (ILT), counterparts across the Americas Category Management organization, and external suppliers as appropriate

  • Located in High Wycombe, UK with home working flexibility and some International travel
