Position Summary

Based in Singapore, and reporting to the Director or Manager, Trade Compliance, the Trade Compliance Associate Manager leads the Trade Compliance organization in the Asia Pacific Region (to include having staff members reporting to them in locations of China, Singapore, and Indonesia) which they are responsible for and is responsible for orchestrating the implementation of trade compliance strategies and objectives set by Trade Compliance Leadership and to support improved compliance across the organization while delivering customer service. The Trade Compliance Associate Manager drives business results through compliance and strong collaboration with functional leaders and teams across the company.


  • Manage trade compliance team and perform any and all administrative requirements for members of the team reporting directly to you.

  • Has influence/collaboration to support the business in developing compliant logistical export/import of goods

  • Support organization in the implementation and oversight of trade compliance processes, procedures and tools by embedding trade compliance requirements as necessary.

  • Accountable for managing and developing Trade Compliance talent in the area of responsibility

  • Support the organization’s implementation of trade compliance best practices

Specific Accountabilities

  • Hold team members accountable for work performance and completion of all compliance initiatives set by leadership. Participate or provide team support to ensuring trade compliance objectives are met and included in major Supply Chain projects.

  • Leads Global Trade Compliance initiatives, which includes warehouses, ocean freight, and trucking

  • Support and perform internal audits/assessments, track actions to closure and engage internal and external counsel when required.

  • Manage, analyze and maintain accurate classifications of goods subject to the regulatory controls such as but not limited to the Customs Regulations, Export Administration Regulations and HTS classification, and other regulatory agencies in which trade business is conducted.

  • Manage Trade Compliance Master Data requests regarding export determinations, HTS Classifications and Country of Origin and general product database information to support queries, cleansing, mass updates, access controls, and other analysis

  • Screen and maintain denied party data and implement necessary controls for engaging parties in trade transactions.

  • Managing re-exportation and anti-boycott controls in collaboration with legal and commercial teams.

  • Cooperate with legal/finance department regarding new clients to eliminate possible risk in exporting goods outside of region. Coordinate with legal on all trade compliance investigations and disclosures.

  • Managing trade compliance issues in support of International Customer Service team requests, freight forwarder or Broker issues.

  • To comply with the legal requirements for all applicable FTA and LTSD used on import and export operations by feeding data to the Center of Expertise for origin determination and maintaining current Certificates of Origin on file.

  • Submit and Obtain Binding Rulings when necessary to support the business. Lead conversation with local trade compliance authorities.

  • Support organization in the implementation and oversight of trade compliance processes, procedures and tools.

  • Conduct Trade Compliance training and develop learning objectives for the organization and team as necessary.

  • Participation and provide trade compliance support in major Supply Chain projects

  • Manage brokers’ performance by reporting monthly accuracy globally agreed to metrics and holding quarterly review meetings. Set up process of cooperation with customs brokers and implement trade compliance program in region. Creation and oversight on SOP regarding customs operation. Hold broker accountable for compliant performance per contractual requirements.

  • Customs valuation management - optimizations / savings and control of proper method of calculation.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Master’s degree and 3+ years or Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years trade compliance or related experience

  • Experience and knowledge in International Business, understanding of Trade Compliance and Customs management including the effects of trade compliance activities across the broader spectrum of business and its performance.

  • Strong interpersonal and business communication skills – both written and verbal. Due to demographics coverage across Asia Pacific including Chinese-speaking markets, ability to converse fluent English and Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese) would be a plus

  • Exposure to in programs such as Lean, Six Sigma or other continuous improvement practices and the ability to bring those to bear in the trade compliance environment.

  • Some team management experience preferred, with the ability to work collaboratively, in a team environment and solve problems across different functions and locations

  • Strong results focus and goal achievement skills; analytical, organizational and planning skills

  • Understanding of long- and short-term planning and driving positive change across an organization.

  • Able to work and travel across multiple time zones
