Energizer Manager, Quality Chemical Engineering in Marietta, Ohio

Position Summary

Achieve assigned Quality objectives which lead to improving global customer/consumer value in our products and processes supporting marketable cost/performance advantages. Provide solid support to Energizer Marietta Plant and product teams in translating and integrating improvements into our operations seamlessly. We manufacture Electrolytic Manganese Dioxide. We utilize Chemical Engineering, Quality principles and tools, and apply growing knowledge of our manufacturing processes, product requirements, manufacturing equipment and quality systems, gained internally and externally to prevent and when needed, resolve manufacturing technical problems, and product quality issues. Sustain and improve foundational quality competencies and capabilities to meet business objectives and enhance our brand image.

Accountabilities

  • Apply Quality and Chemical Engineering principles and design intent knowledge in proposing/revising/approving changes to current Marietta plant processes, product and equipment and quality systems (Chemical /Physical Analysis, Document Control, Change Management, Manufacturing Testing, Traceability, SPC). We are manufacturing Electrolytic Manganese Dioxide.

  • Analyze data of various types to identify trends or concerns and relate to underlying system or process issues.

  • Lead plant troubleshooting efforts as needed to maintain compliance with process and product specifications.

  • Participate and/or lead, as assigned, teams to remove roadblocks to operational teams related to improving process, products, and equipment as well as achieving cost savings.

  • Participate in and/or overall review Capital Projects and provide quality related feedback to Engineers and Value Stream Manager

  • Function as Plant Chemist

  • Support problem solving efforts by operations/maintenance that impact the quality and cost of our products or prevent meeting our business objectives.

Specific Accountabilities

· Participate or lead, as assigned, others in applying Quality and Chemical Engineering principles to Product Cycle Plan (PCP) projects bridging R&D & Engineering development into sustainable manufacturing operations.

· Communicate product issues and changes across functions, facilities and managerial levels

· Supervise analytical lab testing/technicians and equipment maintenance.

· Coordinate with R&D and others to define comprehensive experiments & trials evaluate results, draw conclusions & make recommendations for implementing projects meeting Time/Cost/Performance objectives.

· Apply Quality tools to identify deficiencies and drive to root cause to keep projects on track.

· Champion risk mitigation and change management through Temporary Change Authorization, Potential Problem Analysis and Failure Mode Effects Analysis

· Expand knowledge and skill in the areas of process chemistry, equipment and materials, quality systems and product design

· Serve as trainer and mentor for Lab Technicians.

· Review and report results of testing for Marietta product and SPC data.

· Update process control system as needed via administration of computerized SPC software program for Marietta plant.

· Coordinate or lead as appropriate efforts to understand and remedy customer complaints

Required Skills and Experience

  • EDUCATION: BS in Chemical or Process Engineering

  • DEMONSTRATED SKILLS: Written and Oral presentation, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Minitab or similar program, Collaborative interactions, Project leadership, Strong problem solving methodology application (8D, KT PSDM) and preferably training experience, Chemical and Physical Analytical Testing (AA, Microtrac, titration, sample prep)

  • TASK MANAGEMENT: handles multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously and understands their interactions

  • TECHNICAL EXPERTISE: Experience with Chemical Manufacturing Process and Control systems, Quality Management Systems in a chemical manufacturing environment. Experience in process engineering.

  • EXPERIENCE (YEARS/TYPE): 4+ years of experience in Quality Chemical Engineering oriented roles, 4+ years of experience in leadership roles

Working Relationships & Environment

The Quality Manager reports to the Plant Manager, and works with modest amounts of guidance in many situations. The Quality Manager works closely with other personnel including Marietta Plant Operations and Maintenance, R&D, North American Quality Assurance Department. Must be able to interact appropriately at all level from hourly operators up through Senior Leadership. May have direct contact with Suppliers and Customers. The position is in a manufacturing environment and <10% travel time is expected.
