Position Summary
The Assistant Manager, Category Development provides support on reporting category trends to Energizer’s retail partners as well fulfilling internal reporting needs. This role has responsibility for analyzing and identifying key trends in each segment of business where Energizer competes: Batteries, Lighting Products, and Auto Care. This position will also lead the development and process of customer category line reviews and be the expert in the customer’s category as well as the key strategic leader to assist with the development of their strategies. The specific customer focus of this role is Target; however, other retailer responsibilities may be included as capacity allows.
Accountabilities
Analysis and Decision Making - breaking complex issues into smaller parts to consider the parts in a systematic way. Leads assessment, analysis, & insight generation. Owns category management / analytics.
Teamwork - work well with others in a team setting to ensure the team’s effectiveness in reaching its desired outcomes
Achieving Results - set standards and goals for both themselves and the team that will result in achieving and exceeding business plans and providing maximum return on investment. Direct account responsibility with regular ongoing customer face-to-face meetings.
Specific Accountabilities
Act as the category leader with customer to help develop category strategy based on insights and market trends
Develop and deliver customer presentations
Facilitate the planning process – internal and external
Own the customer category line review process
Represent Category at broader cross-functional team meetings
Interface with other departments (Sales, Trade Marketing, Shopper Activation, Marketing, Finance)
Lead planogram development
Conduct competitive analysis that identifies competitor strategies, strengths and weaknesses
Responsible for the Identification and tracking of key trends
Provide consistent measurement and reporting to the organization
Conduct ad hoc reporting and analysis as required
Space Management
Complete ad tracking for channel/ retailers
May also perform additional duties as assigned
Required Skills and Experience
BA/BS required; Marketing/Business Administration preferred
Proven ability to work effectively with teams, strong communication and interpersonal skills including presentation and relationship building is essential
2-3 years category management, sales experience, or relevant job experience; cross functional experience is desirable
Outstanding written & verbal communication skills
Experience in developing & delivering compelling selling stories / presentations
Technically skilled with Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel, experience with Microsoft SharePoint is preferred
Preferred Skills and Experience
Previous Category Analytics experience
Consumer products industry experience or background preferred
Familiarity with the suite of IRI and Nielsen tools including Scan and Panel data as well as experience with customer POS systems.
Syndicated data experience
Proficiency in JDA space planning software
Working Relationships & Environment
Working Relationships
- Reports to Senior Manager, Category Development. Key relationships internally will include Sales, Trade Marketing, Business Analytics, Shopper Activation, and Category Development.
