Energizer Engineering Manager in Portage, Wisconsin

Position Summary

The Engineering Manager manages and is responsible for a team of people engaged in process and manufacturing engineering, product development in conjunction with our development center, and day to day support for the manufacturing operations. This position is also responsible for developing staff and driving process improvement while maintaining product consistency within an environment of change.

Accountabilities

  • Drive and support product improvement projects and timelines

  • Manage the experimental trial planning process for the plant as a whole

  • Ensure consistency of equipment reliability as well as product performance and reliability in conjunction with the Quality Manager

  • Drive problem solving to root cause and implement permanent corrective actions

  • Drive aggressive cost improvement and productivity projects

  • Implement new or improved products on time (in conjunction with Corporate R&D and QAD), within budget and with no post-launch quality issues

  • Collect, organize and analyze data from a variety of sources, make conclusions and recommendations and provide regular progress reports on projects

  • Maintain current awareness of new technology and developments relevant to areas of specialty

  • Supervise and train others to perform relevant experiments

  • Perform administrative tasks associated with job function

  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, including attendance and performance expectations

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or required

Required Skills and Experience

  • BS. degree in Materials, Chemistry or Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Chemical or Process related, etc.)

  • At least 5 + years professional technical experience in a production manufacturing environment and at least 3 + years management / supervision experience

  • A creative, motivated self-starter with a demonstrated ability to lead projects or significant portions of projects

  • Knowledge of modern quality techniques and systems

  • Excellent people management, presentation, motivation and communication skills

  • Ability to perform well in a high intensity team environment

  • Statistical design and analysis of experiments (DOE setup and execution)

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and strong multi-tasking abilities

  • Ability to analyze and interpret statistical process control (SPC) data

  • Project management methodologies and prior experience

  • Proficiency using computer software (all basic office applications)

  • The ability to lead a Line Management Team and provide direction as appropriate

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Work experience in a chemical process or precision high speed manufacturing environment

  • Minitab, Microsoft Access, Infinity QS, Solidworks skills or experience with similar programs

  • Experience using SAP

Working Relationships & Environment

Working Relationships

  • Reports to Plant Manager

  • Interface with Plant Staff, hourly colleagues, shift Supervisors, Engineers, Quality Control Technicians and other plant personnel

Work Environment

  • Office based position that also requires work in a climate-controlled production environment to achieve deliverables

  • Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by OSHA and plant safety standards

  • Team-based environment that encourages colleague ownership and empowerment, keeping Safety First and Quality Always

  • Occasional travel may be required
