Position Summary

Energizer is seeking an experienced ethics & compliance leader to join the Law Department reporting directly to the Sr Director Ethics & Compliance

Specific Accountabilities

Experienced and strategic Senior Counsel to architect, integrate, manage, and oversee global ethics & compliance risk management at Energizer, with a specific focus and expertise in managing third-party and anti-bribery and corruption risks. This role will drive and ensure full implementation of a robust global risk management process and also influence the organization’s third-party strategy, from due diligence through ongoing monitoring. This role will also play a key role in Energizer’s M&A growth strategy, evaluating and ensuring a proper controls environment.

The Senior Counsel also plays a leading role in our enterprise risk management process and is responsible for developing a proactive approach to anticipating and mitigating future risks through risk data collection and analysis.

The Senior Counsel will participate in the Risk and Compliance Committee in addition to other key management committees, involve interaction with Energizer’s Global Executive Team and senior functional stakeholders. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in successfully overseeing global risk management programs.

  • Partner with senior leaders to develop, enhance & implement a company-wide ethics and compliance risk management strategy. Align risk functions across the enterprise to best serve the businesses

  • Advance the culture and values of the company to include ethics and compliance standards that further enhance the image and reputation of the company.

  • Partner with other risk functions within the company, including with the VP, Internal Audit to address risks.

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of the business and its activities in order to ensure adequate ethics & compliance oversight and resources as the business needs evolve over time; advise leaders on emerging ethics & compliance issues and challenges.

  • Utilize independent judgment and discernment to advise executive management on highly sensitive issues.

  • Oversee the compliance-related operational risk assessment program which supports Energizer’s enterprise risk management program. Review the results of that process and ensure the accuracy of data submitted.

  • Anticipate new, changed, or strategic demands for service through the observation of trends in the work being assigned to the department, company-wide trends, and changes in the external environment.

  • Develop and coordinate an enterprise-wide ethics & compliance risk management framework and governance structure by reviewing Energizer’s processes and procedures for each applicable business function to ensure that they are consistent with relevant laws and regulations.

  • Serve in a key role on Energizer’s Risk and Compliance Committee.

  • Educate our Leaders Globally in Risk Management

  • Listens to key leaders who have experience of high-risk markets to ensure genuine concerns are considered and integrated into the risk management program.

  • Communication: Develops and presents to multiple levels of senior leadership, cross-functional group the Risk Management Policy, Processes and Regulations.

  • Evaluate new business initiatives and processes from an ethics & compliance perspective.

  • Identify potential areas of ethics & compliance vulnerability and risk or trends; drive corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues and provide general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.

  • Monitor and regularly report on the operation and progress of ethics & compliance risk management efforts to keep senior management informed.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 15+ years relevant experience in ethics and compliance

  • Experience of working in high risk markets

  • High emotional intelligence combined with cultural sensitivity

  • Demonstrated cultural insights from operating Globally

  • 10+ experience in Global Government Regulations

  • Ability to make solid judgment calls under pressure

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities including ability to build strategic alignments with key constituents across the company

  • Strategic planning and project management skills

  • Strong people and change management skills

  • The ability to understand multiple technology applications

  • Superior oral and written communication skills

  • Strong motivation and ability to champion a comprehensive ethics & compliance program that is integrated well with the company’s business planning, operations, and culture

Working Relationships & Environment

  • Reports to Sr Director Ethics & Compliance

  • Key relationships internally will include commercial leaders, attorneys, human resources, and internal audit

Work Environment

  • Minimal travel required.
