Position Summary
The Associate Procurement Manager, Global Transportation is responsible for managing the procurement and contracting of ocean freight services ensuring cost-effective, reliable, and timely transportation of goods involving developing/implementing global transportation procurement strategies, negotiating rates, managing relationships with shipping lines and freight forwarders, and ensuring compliance with international trade regulations while optimizing ocean transportation processes, reducing costs, and improving overall supply chain performance
Responsibilities
Develop and implement procurement multi-year strategies for ocean transportation services in collaboration with global supply chain teams in alignment with overall company objectives
Lead negotiations with ocean carriers, freight forwarders and other logistics services providers to secure favorable rates and terms
Monitor and manage relationships with ocean freight vendors to deliver long-term growth and continuous improvements while delivering service
Continuously evaluate market trends and freight indices to identify opportunities for cost savings
Work closely with internal teams to ensure smooth and efficient transportation of goods including mitigation of risks related to ocean transportation (geopolitical risks, port disruptions and regulatory changes)
Collaborate with finance, regional transportation leads and GPS Intelligence to manage budget and forecast shipping costs
Support the Global Transportation Supply Chain Manager, which includes ocean and air freight across approximately 30 markets
Accountable for global transportation spend of approximately $25MM (ocean and air)
Stay updated on industry best practices, emerging trends, and regulatory changes in the global shipping industry
What we are looking for
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Logistics or related field
5-8 years experience in procurement, logistics, or supply chain management with a focus on ocean freight and logistics and experience working with ocean carriers and freight forwarders
Strong knowledge of global shipping, freight procurement and international trade regulations
Proven negotiation, contract management and category management skills
Excellent analytical skills and the ability to make data driven decisions
Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills with experience managing cross-functional teams
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
What we prefer
Knowledge of Transportation/Freight Management Systems and Order Management Systems
Proficiency using procurement tools and e-auctions
