Position Summary

The Data Engineering Manager is a hands-on developer position with team leadership responsibilities. This position requires a highly motivated individual who thrives on learning new skills, developing value-add data products for business partners, and a desire to coach and lead others on the journey. The Data Engineering team is responsible for the development of data pipelines (ETL/ELT), curated data zones, data models and published data sets. As a lead developer, the Data Engineering Manager will be collaborating with data architects to design, build, document, socialize and govern patterns of data development. As a manager, this position will have team and project management responsibilities, will help manage our CI/CD and release management processes, and will have a critical role in the development of future data engineering roadmaps and strategy.

Responsibilities

This is a hands-on development role primarily focused on:

  • Acquisition of data from internal and external sources

  • Storage and staging of data through various stages of transformation

  • Modeling of data to meet various business needs in line with overall data strategy

  • Delivery of data to satisfy reporting, analytics and data science requirements

  • Work with data analytics/science colleagues and project teams to operationalize ML models and deploy into production landscape.

  • Perform root cause analysis on external and internal processes and data to identify opportunities for improvement and answer questions

  • Work closely with subject matter experts and business stakeholders to identify, design, develop and document efficient and high-quality data pipelines and models.

  • Participate in the development of strategy and continuous improvement of data engineering solutions that enable high quality certified data sets, curated zones of data for analytics, and published data to other business consumers.

  • Build processes that support data transformation, workload management, data structures, dependency and metadata

  • Drive CI/CD processes and proper release management of new features and capabilities.

  • Reinforce adherence to established change management practices to ensure availability, performance and reliability of systems impacted by the change

  • Ensure all data engineering deliverables are operational per predefined SLAs.

  • 60% Reporting, Analytics, and Data Engineering: Key member of a team that develops and supports Energizer’s analytics suite of reports, dashboards, and data engineering applications.

  • 20% Program Management: Acts as cross-functional strategic partner in aligning program resources and priorities. Translates data and analytics needs from business partners into executable programs and ensures successful implementation.

  • 10% Coaching and Development: Communicates effectively as a leader to develop talent on the team to provide best-in-class capabilities. Meets regularly with team members and peers. Responsible for reviews and performance management.

  • 10% Communication: Develops and presents to multiple levels of departmental leadership, cross-functional groups, peers, and functional groups of associates in support of special projects and strategic initiatives.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.

  • 5 years of relevant experience with detailed knowledge of data pipelines, data transformation, data warehousing, and job orchestration.

  • 3 years of experience in a lead role working with IT teams and business stakeholders to deliver large scale analytics solutions. Includes demonstrated experience managing tasks across a project team, working with end users to define and document requirements, and managing validation and quality of delivered solutions.

  • 2 years of experience developing data analytics/engineering solution in cloud-based platforms (Azure, Google or AWS)

  • Experience working with multiple Big Data file formats (such as: Parquet, Avro, or Delta Lake)

  • Experience working in Big Data Distributed ecosystems (such as: Hadoop, SPARK, Hive or Delta Lake)

  • Experience working on CI/CD processes such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, etc. and source control tools such as GitHub, etc.

  • Strong experience (both knowledge and skills) in coding languages like Python

  • Fluent in relational based systems and writing complex SQL.

  • SAP experience and functional knowledge of the data structures preferred

  • Microsoft Azure experience (Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, Databricks) preferred

  • Strong business understanding (sales, supply chain, operations, and/or finance) preferred

  • Strong understanding of database technologies and management systems preferred

  • Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms preferred
