Position Summary

Energizer is seeking an auto category lead counsel who will be an engaged team player with significant business and legal experience. This role will support the core Energizer teams developing and launching auto care products and services. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated good judgment, and a proven track record of proactively advising clients in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and achievement of high-impact business results. Strong initiative and follow through are essential for this job. The ability to maintain confidentiality and to operate in the role with the highest of ethical standards and professionalism are required.

The candidate will work directly with company executives and help drive Energizer’s short and long-term strategies and collaborate on complex legal and regulatory issues. The candidate will be comfortable taking a high-profile leadership position to drive, partner, communicate, and help develop innovative legal and regulatory approaches to difficult and novel issues. The candidate will be capable of working successfully in complex situations at multiple levels, with a wide variety of clients and will have a strong legal, regulatory, business and leadership background.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Superior ability to synthesize business activities and objectives and identify areas requiring legal advice

  • Analyzing auto care products, category dynamics, policies and initiatives to provide practical legal risk mitigation strategies for products across multiple jurisdictions, with responsibility of coordination of the same

  • Providing business teams with legal and regulatory advice across many subject areas, including competition and consumer protection laws

  • Coordinating internally and externally across different subject matter experts, legal and other groups in addressing auto category-related issues, including educating and training colleagues

  • Ensuring compliance with existing policies, federal and state laws and regulations and assisting in formulation of solutions to any identified problem areas exposing company to risk

  • Drafting and reviewing product terms of service, trial agreements, FAQs, technical requirements, customer care and training scripts as well as product collateral and advertising copy

  • Advising clients both on individual customer contract issues and in designing contract language that best meet business objectives

  • Engagement with Regulatory function to proactively assess legislative or regulatory developments with actual or potential impact on key product initiatives and strategies

Required Skills and Experience

  • J.D. degree and membership in at least one U.S. state bar

  • 10+ years of legal experience, including in-house experience

  • Exposure to working with C-Suite level executives

  • Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate and collaborate with individuals at all levels in and out of the organization

  • Ability to work effectively on multiple projects at once

  • Ability to effectively communicate, collaborate and deliver an excellent work product in a fast-paced and rapidly growing dynamic company

  • Experience in a consumer product goods company

  • Experience advising clients on intellectual property, marketing, advertising, and international laws
