Position Summary

Based in St. Louis, Missouri, and reporting to the Vice President, Global Supply Chain, the Director, Trade Compliance leads the Global Trade Compliance function and is responsible for orchestrating the development and implementation of strategies that will continuously improve Energizer’s Trade Compliance Program, insuring compliance with local trade compliance regulations and Energizer local, regional and global trade compliance policies. In addition, the Director, Trade Compliance is responsible for strategies and implementation of strategies to proactively identify and reduce trade compliance risk, reduce trade compliance spend and simplify trade compliance processes.

The Director of Trade Compliance is the global expert on Trade Compliance, leading a team of regional and local experts including internal colleagues and external partnerships. This position is accountable for proactively driving functional and business results through strong collaboration with cross-functional business partners.

Accountabilities

  • Influence business decisions through the on-going leadership of the Global Trade Compliance function

  • Advocate for Trade Compliance by focusing to improve the trade compliance program, processes, training and internal collaboration to achieve overall business results

  • Has significant influence/collaboration within Integrated Supply Chain, Legal, Customer Service and Finance to further develop and enforce Trade Compliance across the company

  • Accountable for the Global Trade Compliance talent and business strategy

  • Assures global leveraging of industry best practices

Specific Accountabilities

  • Leads a global team of up to 30 colleagues, including up to 10 direct reports. Direct reports may or may not be located locally to this position

  • Leads the Global Trade Compliance center of excellence

  • Accountable for the outsourcing strategy as well as working with procurement of outsourcing partners and their subsequent performance

  • Develops and executes the Global Trade Compliance Program and its annual functional plans, including but not limited to: training development and execution, risk monitoring and mitigation plans, monitoring and reporting of global trade regulation changes, development of internal and external KPIs

  • Monitors the effectiveness of the Global Trade Compliance Program from a strategic and tactical level including monitoring internal and external performance with assessments and metrics

  • This role will lead the continued implementation of a GTM tool to drive improvement in the Global Trade Compliance Program

  • May also perform additional duties as assigned

Required Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will be a Trade Compliance and Global Customs Regulatory expert with leadership experience in organizations known for world-class Global Trade Compliance Programs. S/he will have at least 10 years of experience in Trade Compliance, leading a global team and should have a strong working knowledge of industry trends and best practices. S/he will have experience in driving change management and implementing a Global Trade Compliance Program. This leader must be a proactive, action-oriented business leader with the ability to identify risk, make decisions and drive change within well-established organizations. S/he must be a dynamic leader with strong executive presence and business credibility. Most importantly, this individual must balance the strategic and hands-on requirements of this position with a flexible working style and a proven ability to influence key internal and external stakeholders.

  • 10+ years of demonstrated progressive leadership experience

  • 5-10 years of Trade Compliance experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Advanced degree highly preferred

  • Demonstrated understanding and application of corporate compliance programs including trade compliance, sanction laws and customs regulations

  • Demonstrated proficiency in global customs issues including experience in developed and emerging countries, import, export, free trade zone and bonded warehouses

  • Subject matter expert in all relevant areas of Global Trade Compliance including but not limited to Customs, EAR, foreign trade regulations, Schedule B/HTS classifications, free trade agreements, trade sanctions, and hazardous material requirements

  • Excellent computer skills; previous experience with a GTM solution is preferred

  • Strong business and financial acumen with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach to risk management

  • Experience with integrating acquisitions

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Proven experience leading and developing a high performing team

  • English fluency required. Other languages helpful

  • CPG background preferred

  • Exposure and understanding of global supply chain dynamics and considerations

  • Influential leadership of global organization and senior management

  • Reports to Vice President, Global Supply Chain; key relationship building internally to include legal, finance, marketing, customer service, customer supply chain, logistics, procurement, and operations

  • Able to accomplish goals through persuasion, networking and broad influence, leaning heavily on a transparent and authentic style

  • Works closely with the Legal, Finance, and Customer Service Departments, development strong relationships to effectively monitor risks and opportunities and act cohesively to execute plans.

  • Acts decisively, with proper inputs while providing clear direction and explanations for decisions

  • Willing to tackle difficult issues

  • Ability to develop global relationships based on trust and common objectives

Working Relationships & Environment

  • International Travel Required 25% - 30%
