Position Summary

The Demand Planner is responsible for managing the monthly forecasting process for assigned Customer Groups. This highly visible role will partner with commercial, customer supply chain, supply planning, and finance to drive accurate net requirements by item and location. Responsible for continuous improvement of the forecasting process and associated metrics including forecast error, case fill rate, and bias.


  • Drive internal collaboration between internal/external suppliers, customer supply chain, and sales in order to deliver internal delivery and working capital goals.

  • Participate on assigned project teams to achieve common goals.

  • Improve overall supply chain efficiencies through increased forecast accuracy

Specific Accountabilities

Demand Planning

  • Manages and maintains the SAP-IBP Demand module for an assigned set of products. Develops forecast models for new items, manages product transitions to effect transfer of forecasts from prior product generation to new versions, and deletes obsolete items from the database.

  • Evaluate demand history as well as current demand in order to make resolutions to update SAP-IBP Demand statistical models. Refits models and adjust models parameters consistent with changes in demand patterns and customer plans.

  • Works closely with Customer Business Development, Customer Supply Chain and customers to include the effects of Marketing/Customer plans, new product introductions and SKU rationalization plans on forecasts.

  • Monitors forecast performance reports for assigned product categories and customers as input to continuous improvement activities.

  • Manage the maintenance and control of the statistical forecast using SAP IBP - Demand. Utilize demand history and adjusted order history to statistically forecast demand on a 24 month rolling basis for assigned codes based on location.

  • Drive internal collaboration between internal/external suppliers, customer supply chain, and sales in order to deliver internal delivery and working capital goals.

  • Participate on assigned project teams to achieve common goals

  • Monitor demand history performance, providing detailed input for use in the demand consensus review.

  • Collaborate with Commercial and Marketing to incorporate product life cycle, promotions, sample requests, and intelligence from the field into the statistical forecast in preparation for planning.

  • Partner with customer service and supply planning to mitigate and prioritize constrained demand.

  • Automate processes to improve accuracy and efficiency with regards to SAP-IBP Demand, reporting, and various internal tools.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree required (Forecasting, Supply Planning, Supply Chain, or Business preferred)

  • 4-6 years demand planning, supply chain, and/or operations experience

  • Demonstrated systematic skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Must be self-motivated and highly adaptable to change

  • Excel Power User, Access, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook

  • Must have working knowledge of supply and demand planning concepts as well as Sales and Operations Planning.

  • JDA/SAP or other planning software experience preferred.

Working Relationships & Environment

Working Relationships

  • Will report directly to Manager or Associate Manager

  • Will work in the North American Planning area

  • Will closely partner with North America Sales, North America Customer Supply Chain, Internal/External Suppliers, and other internal cross-functional departments

Work Environment

  • Willing to travel domestically – less than 10% in total
