Position Summary

The Director, Global Trade Compliance leads the Global Trade Compliance function for the enterprise and is responsible for orchestrating the development and implementation of strategies that will continuously improve Energizer’s Trade Compliance Program, ensuring compliance with global trade regulations, mitigating risking for the organization and adding strategic value.

The Director, Global Trade Compliance will lead a team of regional and local experts globally, including internal colleagues and external partnerships. This position is accountable for proactively driving functional and business results through strong collaboration with cross-functional business partners.


  • Influence business decisions through proactive partnering, providing relevant and tailored Trade Compliance guidance

  • Continuously enhance Energizer’s Global Trade Compliance infrastructure and execution, striving for a best in class Trade Compliance Program

  • Has significant influence/collaboration within Supply Chain, Legal and Finance to further develop and enforce the Global Trade Compliance program

  • Accountable for the Global Trade Compliance talent strategy

  • Leverages industry best practices to drive Global Trade Compliance excellence

Specific Accountabilities

  • Leads a global team of up to 20 colleagues, including several direct reports - direct reports may not be local

  • Accountable for the outsourcing strategy as well as the procurement of outsourcing partners and their subsequent performance

  • Develops and executes the Global Trade Compliance Program and its annual functional plans, including but not limited to training development and execution, risk monitoring and mitigation plans, monitoring and reporting of global trade regulation changes, development of internal, and external KPIs

  • Monitors the effectiveness of the Global Trade Compliance Program from a strategic and tactical level including monitoring internal and external performance with assessments and metrics

Required Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will be a Global Trade Compliance professional with leadership experience in organizations known for world-class Global Trade Compliance Programs. They will have at least 10 years of experience in Global Trade Compliance, with a strong working knowledge of industry trends and best practices. They will have experience driving change and implementing or evolving a Global Trade Compliance Program. This leader must be a proactive, action-oriented business leader with the ability to identify risk, make decisions, and drive change within well-established organizations. They must be a dynamic leader with strong executive presence and business credibility. Most importantly, this individual must balance the strategic and hands-on requirements of this position with a flexible working style and a proven ability to influence key internal and external stakeholders.

  • 10+ years of demonstrated progressive leadership experience

  • 10+ years of Global Trade Compliance experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

  • Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) background

  • Experience in designing, implementing and/or enhancing corporate Global Trade Compliance Programs

  • Experience managing or directly supporting trade compliance in developed and emerging countries

  • Subject matter expert in all relevant areas of Global Trade Compliance including but not limited to U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR), U.S. Foreign Trade Regulations, OFAC, 19CFR and all U.S. Customs regulations

  • Previous experience with a Global Trade Management (GTM) Solution

  • Strong business and financial acumen with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach to risk management

  • Experience with M&A due diligence and post-acquisition integration

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Proven experience leading and developing a high performing team

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and written in English

  • Exposure and understanding of global supply chain dynamics and considerations

  • Influential leadership of global organization and senior management

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Advanced degree preferred

  • Licensed U.S. Customs Broker or global equivalent (highly preferred)

Work Relationships

  • Reports to Senior Director, Global S&OP, Transportation and Trade Compliance; key relationships internally include Legal, Tax, Finance, Marketing, Customer supply chain, Logistics, Procurement, and Operations

  • Builds and sustains excellent relationships at multiple levels within the company and externally with relevant stakeholders with the ability to represent the Global Trade Compliance function with internal and external stakeholders

  • Develops collaborative relationships with key stakeholders within Commercial, ISC, Finance and Legal to be an important part of the team and key business decisions

  • Able to accomplish goals through persuasion, networking and broad influence, leaning heavily on a transparent and authentic style

  • Works closely with the Legal and Finance Departments, development strong relationships to effectively monitor risks and opportunities and act cohesively to execute plans

Work Environment

  • Ability to work remote or St. Louis-based

  • Flexible work schedule to accommodate virtual meetings with other regions and time zones

  • Domestic and International travel up to 25%
