Position Summary

As the Associate Manager for Safety, Health, and Environmental Affairs (SHEA), you will be responsible for fostering innovation and continuous improvement of our legacy Global Safety, Health and Environmental Affairs (SHEA) programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of domestic Safety, Health and Environmental goals to support the operations strategy while assuring compliance with the appropriate regulations and corporate policy

  • Monitor changes in regulations to facilitate change at manufacturing locations ensuring compliance

  • Lead the charge to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, environmental issues, and financial losses through colleague engagement and innovation

  • Review accident data (near miss and injuries) to ensure focus of efforts is on highest risk areas

  • Complete safety and health assessments of technical projects, accident corrective actions and overall manufacturing facilities

  • Drive continuous improvement through the streamlining of programs to match our current operations model and best industry practices

  • Maintain an active Industrial Hygiene program for facilities

  • Provide training to new SHEA Coordinators and assist with training of plant leaders or colleagues as needed

  • Participate in the annual development of the global operations strategy and plant strategies as requested

  • Challenge SHEA coordinators and plant leaders during incident reviews to assure corrective actions will prevent future injuries

  • May directly supervise other SHEA coordinators or collaborate with other leaders on setting objectives and providing feedback to colleagues

  • Communicate at various levels of the organization effectively both verbal and written

  • Network with other SHEA professionals for information exchange and mutual assistance

  • Participate on teams within function or may lead projects outside of functional area that have a larger impact on the business

  • Conduct site audits and assists with finding solutions to identified gaps

  • Direct the implementation of new regulations to the impacted facilities

  • Update the Global SHEA manual as required when changes occur

  • Manage safety & health systems and external suppliers that support programs

  • Ensure contractor safety compliance program compliance

What we are looking for

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, General Sciences and/or Environmental Science, or significant applicable experience

  • Minimum 5 years related experience in Occupational Safety & Health roles

  • Prior experience and responsibility for safety, health and environmental programs

What we prefer (not required)

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or in pursuit of

  • Experience with directly managing colleagues or working in a matrix reporting environment

  • Experience with influencing organization leaders and managers

  • Time management and prioritization skills leading to well-developed action plans that have cross-functional alignment

  • Uncompromising principles in Occupational Safety & Health with the ability to mentor other leaders in the organization to adopt these principles

  • Basic knowledge of environmental regulations
