Position Summary

The facilities Safety, Health, and Environmental Affairs (SHEA) Specialist is part of the facilities group at Energizer R &D located in Westlake Ohio and will support all aspects of the safety, health, and environmental programs at the Westlake, Middleton, and Dayton R & D laboratories. The SHEA specialist is a key member of the facilities team and will maintain R & D program alignment with all corporate safety and environmental programs as well as abiding by all applicable laws and regulations.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Execute program and maintain documentation for safety programs such as:

  • Chemical Hygiene/Hazard Communication Program

  • Industrial Hygiene

  • Hearing Protection

  • Lockout Tagout/Energy Control Procedures

  • Job Safety Hazard Analysis program

  • Power Press safety

  • Machine Guarding safety program

  • Contractor Safety Compliance

  • Lead, organize, and properly document required training for safety and environmental compliance programs

  • Participate in, and on occasion Lead incident investigations

  • Implement improvements to safety processes and training systems

  • Drive safety culture towards personal accountability and continuous improvement

  • Evaluate, specify, and procure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental/Health/Safety/Chemistry or related field

  • 2+ years’ experience in a safety or environmental compliance role.

  • Knowledge of OSHA Laboratory regulations

  • Knowledge of EPA regulations

  • Experience with Haz Com and chemical safety

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Safety experience in a chemical laboratory or manufacturing environment

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of OSHA machine guarding regulations

  • Hazwoper certified

  • Knowledge of DOD hazardous shipping regulations

Working Relationships & Environment

The SHEA Specialist reports directly to the R & D SHEA Coordinator and will directly or indirectly collaborate with all colleagues in the R & D facilities, as well as the corporate safety group. The SHEA Specialist will also lead or work directly with various safety and environmental sub-teams such as Emergency Response, Industrial Hygiene, Lock Out Tag Out, and other critical teams.

Work Environment

  • The Westlake Ohio facility is a Research and Development laboratory for Batteries, Flashlights, Automotive Appearance chemicals, Automotive Refrigerant and Lubrication chemicals, and Automotive Fragrance products.

  • This position reports Monday through Friday, day shift.
