Position Summary

As a Technician you will provide key support to Auto Care Research & Development by assisting with pilot scale product trials, supporting process development and production scale up for new and improved auto care innovations from brands like Armor All, Eagle One, STP, A/C Pro, NuFinish, Tuff Stuff, Lexol, California Scents, & Refresh Your Car. The right candidate is a self-starter who works well with their hands, develops a deep understanding of the equipment and process, and can collaborate with a team of scientists and peers to deliver consistent products for this fast-paced business. The incumbent also develops strong relationships with cross-functional partners and has experience with standard work procedures and chemical safety in a lab setting.

Accountabilities

  • Execute pilot trials aimed at improving process and scale up in manufacturing.

  • Understand the basic principles, materials, and devices in auto care products leading to new and improved systems, constructions, or processes having marketable cost/performance advantages.

  • Train and instruct others to perform routine and non-routine tasks and experiments.

  • Create training documentation and standard operating procedures.

  • Use equipment to blend chemicals and dispense into consumer packaging.

  • Participate in department continuous improvement activities and serve as an ad hoc team member as required.

  • Create sales samples for marketing and other cross functional teams.

  • Measure, collect & analyze data, and provide real time results and feedback.

  • Ensure smooth operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by taking an ownership mentality.

  • Troubleshoot issues with equipment and working cross functionally with facilities team to resolve issues.

  • Practice proper safety procedures. Recognize, report and document unsafe acts or conditions.

Required Skills and Experience

  • One – two years of pertinent college course work or equivalent experience/education and a good fundamental understanding of higher-level mathematics, mechanics, general science, and general computer applications.

  • Capable of communicating both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to interpret shop manuals, schematics, and work instructions.

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds on a regular basis.

  • Available to work overtime as needed.

  • Strong attention to Detail.

  • Computer skills: MS Word, Excel, Outlook.

  • Will generally have 2-5 years of demonstrated related experience in a technical laboratory or similar environment.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Associate degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Process engineering or equivalent experience in these fields.

  • Understand (M)SDS details related to chemical hazard communication standards (GHS).

Work Environment

  • Will work in in an office and laboratory setting

  • Up to 10% travel is required.

  • Work schedule that may occasionally vary from typical business hours.
