Position Summary
The Shop Technologist (Machinist) is an accomplished tradesperson who can provide significant assistance to engineers and scientists. Also capable of basic design and development where design intent may be vague and instructions only verbal. Works with engineering and laboratory personnel to accomplish development project objectives. Uses all available equipment to perform machining, assembly and finishing operations.

Fabricate mechanical parts using selected shop equipment per R & D requirements
Assembly, set-up, and prove-in of prototype and production equipment or processes
Provide technical support to product group’s pilot line operations
Prepare and electronically maintain necessary clerical records required performing the job including inspection reports, yearly Objectives including Individual Development Plan, trip reports, finished sketches, drawing updates and technical drafts
Develop high-quality training and preventive maintenance documents
Procure materials needed to be used for the assignment through the use of SAP and / or company-issued credit card
Provide key troubleshooting expertise on R & D equipment.
Perform scheduled maintenance and housekeeping assignments to maintain the 5S Program in the machine shop, and all building-related areas – mechanical rooms, service chases, penthouse, closets, grounds, etc.
Interfaces with outside vendors and suppliers
Required Skills and Experience
High school graduate
Formal skilled trades training in a technical school or approved program
5-7 years machining experience in a custom part or maintenance environment
Proficient in the use of standard shop equipment such as Lathes, Mills, Saws, Presses, etc.
Familiarity with CAD and Solid Modeling software
Proficient in the use of CNC equipment and CAM software
Highly proficient in reading blueprints and assembly drawings
Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and strong computer skills
Excellent math skills
Preferred Skills and Experience
Associates degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field
Familiarity with Autodesk/Autocad/Vault, and Inventor software
Knowledge in small work cell systems
Knowledge in areas of punch press, tablet press,
Knowledge in the areas of general plant support systems such as pumps, air compressors, and hydraulics.
Working knowledge of safety protocols
Working Relationships & Environment
The Process Support Engineer will directly or indirectly collaborate with many different disciplines in the R & D facilities. The Process Support Engineer will also lead or work directly with various laboratory and equipment sub-teams such as the Pilot line team, Roadmap Group, Breakthrough Group, and other critical teams in both the battery and automotive businesses at the Westlake and other R & D locations.
Work Environment
The Westlake Ohio facility is a Research and Development laboratory for Batteries, Flashlights, Automotive Appearance chemicals, Automotive Refrigerant and Lubrication chemicals, and Automotive Fragrance products.
This position reports Monday through Friday, day shift.
