Position Summary

As an R&D Manager on Energizer’s Battery R&D Team, you will lead a team of engineers to develop and implement product improvements key to maintaining our industry leading position. You will provide a key role in leading a culture of continuous improvement by collaborating with cross functional partners including marketing, procurement, operations, and quality assurance. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in leading technical resources to develop and implement consumer product improvement projects.

The position is based at Energizer’s R&D Facility in Westlake, OH. Energizer is a customer-focused, innovation-oriented, consumer packaged goods company. The position supports the development of performance improvements and the planning of future battery innovations. The position will lead and coordinate product improvement projects and maintain a robust project roadmap to deliver ongoing improvements to industry leading battery products. Specific accountabilities are noted below:

  • Lead a team of engineers to develop and implement product performance and/or cost improvements that meet time, cost, and performance objectives.

  • Support surety of supply strategy and projects.

  • Set the strategic plan for R&D including developing a roadmap of ongoing product improvements which will further strengthen our portfolio of products.

  • Interact with cross-functional teams including marketing, procurement, operations, legal, and external third parties as needed to reach objectives.

  • Refine our internal processes and ways of working to optimize efficiency.

  • Track projects and manage projects from conception to launch and ensure on time project delivery.

  • Provide project leadership and communicate updates across cross-functional teams and to senior leadership.

Provide technical guidance to cross functional teams (Marketing, Commercial, Procurement, Operations).

  • Must possess ability to comprehend business objectives and work independently to solve problems in the most efficient manner possible.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5 or more years of technical managerial experience in an R&D or equivalent setting with a track record of product improvement.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage direct reports and experience supervising a team of four or more individuals.

  • Minimum of a BS in chemistry, engineering, or other relevant scientific discipline required.

  • Strong knowledge of product development systems and tools required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.

  • Excellent communication and organization skills, ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Related technical experience with consumer goods products.

  • Stage Gate Protocol, Design for Six Sigma, Statistics and Design of Experiments.

  • Project Management

Root Cause Analysis

Working Relationships & Environment

Reports to R&D Sr Manager. Key relationships will include R&D team, Marketing, Procurement, External Suppliers, and Operations groups.

Work Environment

Travel, including international, up to 10% is required. The employee will also be expected to participate in occasional teleconference meetings with global colleagues in different time zones.
