Position Summary
The Senior Chemist creates and directs testing methods in support of product development and quality, as well as provides broad support for material identification to meet business needs. This person will interact with colleagues throughout the R&D organization in supporting product development and cost savings efforts and provide support as necessary to production and procurement efforts in materials qualification and troubleshooting.
Responsibilities
Analytical Testing
Develop and validate new Testing Methods
Reverse engineer materials or formulations, including researching and identifying chemical composition of products or materials
Perform hands on laboratory testing as necessary
Generate and interpret business relevant conclusions from test data, including statistical data analysis to support conclusions derived from testing
Document and communicate results using both technical writing and oral presentations, sharing information with product development teams and quality assurance departments
Interface with cross-functional customers to ensure understanding of results and conclusions
Build and maintain project and experiment timelines to meet business needs
Serve as a primary resource for root cause analysis for R&D and production facilities
Laboratory Support
Provide expertise and support to select, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment
Coordinate with subcontracted/external labs as necessary for testing support services
Maintain cost-effective test capabilities by leveraging internal and external resources
Provide technical oversight of the analytical laboratory and ensure cost, efficiency, and quality of test results
Provide coaching and training to analysts on the theory of instrumentation and associated best practices, ensuring analysts have a thorough understanding of customer needs and specific chemistry training tailored to given projects/requests
Exhibit effective communication, listening, and collaboration skills to work with the team while having the ability to efficiently work independently to complete required tasks
Support chemical laboratory safety for R&D function
What we are looking for
Master’s degree in chemistry or equivalent experience
5+ years in depth relevant laboratory experience, with a focus on inorganic chemistry
Broad knowledge of chemistry, including wet chemistry techniques and analytical instrumentation
Knowledge of general laboratory safety practices, standards, and regulations
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
May require the use of Personal Protective Equipment, including the potential use of a respirator
Will work in a technical laboratory setting with occasional travel-up to 10%
What we would prefer
Doctorate and/or 10+ years equivalent experience
Experience in the consumer products industry
