Provide key support to research and development by participating in the planning and execution of pilot line experiments and trials for alkaline batteries. Ability to understand the underlying principles and use of materials, operation of production equipment which includes: set-up, processing, and clean-up.
Plans and executes routine production responsibilities and non-routine experiments and tasks.
Collects, records, and transcribes routine and non-routine data; performs routine and non-routine calculations; creates routine and non-routine tables and charts; summarizes data and analyzes for exceptions; offers explanations for data exceptions; creates data reports.
Uses appropriate materials and equipment and understands the underlying principles of use or operation; applies understanding to the planning and execution of assigned program steps, experiments and tasks.
Understands the basic principles, materials, and parts of energy systems and/or devices in assigned area. Conducts experiments, under team leader guidance, leading to new and improved systems, constructions, or processes having marketable cost/performance advantages.
Trains and instructs others to perform routine and non-routine tasks and experiments. Creates training documentation.
Coordinates the work of co-workers and interfaces with other R&D product groups, equipment, service groups, and plants to acquire the information and services necessary to execute assigned program steps, experiments and tasks.
Executes experiments leading to new or improved methods and provides full documentation of results.
Practices proper safety procedures. Recognizes, reports and documents unsafe acts or conditions.
Provides leadership for others in Key Result areas.
Participates in and implements department continuous improvement activities. Serves as an adhoc team member as required.
Regularly communicates and engages with peers and stakeholders as needed
Additional duties as assigned.
Mixing materials using industrial mixers.
Compressing materials using hydraulic presses.
Dispensing materials using hydraulic pumps.
Assembling final products using various pieces of production machines/equipment.
Troubleshooting issues with machines/equipment and working with team members to resolve issues.
Managing and performing tool and die change overs.
Measuring, collecting & analyzing data, and providing real time results and feedback to engineers.
Ensuring smooth operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by taking an ownership mentality.
Locating sources of problems by observation, locating and elevating causes of concern.
Completing required paperwork, documenting parts and material usage.
Required Skills and Experience
Three years of pertinent college course work or equivalent experience/education and a good fundamental understanding of higher level mathematics, mechanics, general science, and general computer applications.
Ability to interpret shop manuals, schematics, and work instructions.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds on a regular basis.
Ability to be fitted for and use a particulate respirator.
Available to work overtime as needed.
Strong attention to Detail.
Computer skills: MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
Preferred Skills and Experience
Bachelors’ degree in chemistry, mechanical engineering technology, or a related field.
5-10 years of demonstrated related experience in a technical laboratory or similar environment.
Working Relationships & Environment
Interfaces with supervisor for limited direction and guidance.
Team focus by building relationships and driving for continuous team improvement.
Works with and provides guidance to co-workers as necessary.
Interfaces with other departments or groups to acquire and present necessary information.
Will work in an office and laboratory setting
Up to 5% travel is required.
Work schedule that may occasionally vary from typical business hours.
