Position Summary

The Licensing Technologist’s role is primarily to review technical data to substantiate claims, review product submissions for brand alignment, and ensure certification or regulatory marks (on products, packaging, other written materials) are supported with testing and certificates. The role works both independently as well as within a self-directed team consisting of R&D, marketing and legal, to protect and preserve the high standard of the Energizer brand.


  • Reviews routine and non-routine data; analyzes for exceptions; Investigates exceptions and seeks explanations; and provides feedback.

  • Understands the basic principles, materials, and parts of energy systems and/or devices in assigned area.

  • Coordinates the work of co-workers and interfaces with other Technology product groups, equipment, service groups to acquire the information and services necessary to execute assigned program steps

  • Practices proper safety procedures. Recognizes, reports and documents unsafe acts or conditions.

  • Provides leadership for others in key result areas.

  • Participates in and implements department continuous improvement activities.

  • Serves as an adhoc team member as required.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Edit and critically review/compare product documentation for accuracy and completeness

  • Legal review: trademark statements

  • Ability to read, comprehend and interpret certifications, testing reports (CE, FCC, UL, spectrum reports, etc.)

  • Review audit reports, identify deficiencies, and determine validity of Corrective Action Plan

  • Ability to review instruction guides, installation manuals, quick start guides, etc., for conciseness, grammatical correctness, flow, formatting, etc.

  • Able to ensure marks on packaging, product labels, manuals, etc. are supported with testing and certifications of the product submission

  • Basic understanding of energy systems and/or devices (alkaline battery, lithium ion battery, lighting products)

  • Able to lift up to 35 pounds

  • General administrative support across several departments (inventory, product ordering)

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint

  • Able to quickly learn new software programs

Required Skills and Experience

  • Three years of pertinent college course work or equivalent experience/education.

  • A good fundamental understanding of mathematics, mechanics, general science, and general computer applications.

  • Critical thinking skills

  • Self directed

  • Time management

  • Mechanical aptitude

  • Understands product quality requirements

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Will generally have 5-10 years of demonstrated related experience in a technical or similar environment.

  • Electrical aptitude

Work Environment

  • The Westlake Ohio facility is a Research and Development laboratory for Batteries, Lighting, Automotive Appearance Chemicals, and Automotive Fragrance products.

  • This position reports Monday through Friday, day shift.

  • Will work in in a technical setting with occasional travel

  • Up to 5% travel is required.

  • Able to perform repetitive manual tasks requiring hands, stand for extended periods of time, and lift 35 lbs.

  • Exposure to health risks or conditions that may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment.

  • Work schedule that may occasionally vary from typical business hours.
