As a Technology Engineer – Global Auto Care R&D, you will work with a team of scientists and technologists to deliver and maintain a robust pipeline of innovative automotive aftermarket products for this fast paced and exciting business. You will become a technical and formulation expert while working closely with a cross-functional team to launch products. The right candidate for this role is an innovator who takes charge with seeing their ideas through to completion and has hands-on product development and project management experience.
The position, based in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, is a part of Energizer’s Auto Care business, a customer-focused, innovation-oriented, fast growing consumer packaged goods company. Energizer is passionate about making time in the car more enjoyable with market-leading brands of car air fresheners, cleaning and conditioning products.
Interact as part of a cross-functional team including marketing, procurement, legal, and external third parties such as global suppliers and contract manufacturers
Develop formulations and evaluate performance of products leveraging internal and external analytical resources. Understand and apply underlying technical understanding of chemical and material interactions.
Characterize new and existing raw materials for product formulations
Project management of development projects, from concept to launch using stage gate process, to deliver against timelines and milestones aligned with the Marketing Cycle Plan and customer requirements.
Analyze and interpret data to meet project targets and objectives, and make recommendations that drive efficiency and manage risk. Prepare and present project reports.
Work with marketing, sales, and regulatory in developing competitive claims and product demonstrations
Define and use SOPs, best practices, experimental designs and test methods to ensure a robust and rigorous development process
Develop and maintain professional relationships with suppliers, technical experts, etc. Identify and drive capability and process improvements to enable more efficient product development.
Participate in establishing Intellectual Property related to assigned programs
Required Skills and Experience
BS/BA (4 year undergraduate) degree and at least 2 years of consumer product formulation experience
Experience in formulation chemistry, raw materials, surfactants, and the ability to sue this knowledge to develop innovative, cost effective products
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent organization skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and effectively.
Capable of working cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
Working Relationships & Environment
Reports to R&D Manager.
Key relationships will include the broader R&D team, marketing, legal, procurement, regulatory, external suppliers, and operations.
Candidate will be expected to work with chemicals that may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment.
Candidate will work in an office environment, a technical laboratory, and occasionally in an industrial manufacturing setting.
Ability to travel, including international, up to 20% is required.
Colleague will be expected to participate in occasional teleconference meetings with global colleagues and external partners in different time zones.
