Position Summary

In this role, the individual will provide leadership and technical direction on various electrical and electronics needs of the R&D organization including battery testing and battery-operated devices. The role incorporates external customer support, product technical support for existing batteries, lights, and chargers, and providing electrical and electronics-based expertise to multiple groups within the organization.


  • Full time, entry-level engineering position located at R&D Technical Center in Westlake, OH

  • Service as a general electrical and electronics support leader for existing products across battery, lights, chargers, and auto care products

  • Assess on an ongoing basis any additional resource or budget needs required to complete specific accountabilities, and provide supervision/coordination of non-exempt colleagues as needed

Specific Accountabilities

  • Understand basic battery/device interactions and develop familiarity with the Energizer battery portfolio in order to provide runtime estimates and recommend appropriate battery solutions for a variety of customer applications

  • Serve as internal “device expert”; conduct or coordinate device characterizations, develop simulation protocols and in-device testing protocols, provide recommendations on device power trends for inclusion into battery test standards

  • Provide written technical support responses to OEM, customer, and consumer inquiries regarding battery usage and device interactions

  • Determine, develop, conduct or coordinate routine and non-routine battery testing to support specialized customer and internal requests

  • Support electrical testing of lights, chargers, and auto care products

  • Oversee or maintain product datasheets

  • Provide technical assessment of emerging technologies in the area of electronics

  • Provide input and recommendations to new product development teams

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s in electrical engineering required

  • 0-5 years of experience with electronics in an industrial or product development environment

  • Familiarity with a variety of electronic components and related technologies including DC-DC converters, LEDs, and wireless communication protocols

  • Proficient with the use of electronic test equipment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of batteries or devices preferred

  • Experience with developing test protocols, programming/using electrical test equipment, and data acquisition

  • Customer support experience

  • Familiarity with website software

Working Relationships & Environment

  • Interfaces directly with OEM/technical customers, primarily via email

  • Interfaces with R&D, Engineering, Marketing and Regulatory groups to acquire information and services necessary to meet assigned objectives

  • Supervises and develops 0-3 non-exempt colleagues, and provides annual appraisals of their performance and developmental feedback.

  • Interfaces with supervisors for direction and guidance

Work Environment

  • Will work in a technical lab setting with occasional travel to manufacturing plants/locations

  • Travel 10% domestically may be required.

  • Exposure to health risks or conditions that may require the use of personal protective equipment

  • A work schedule that may occasionally vary from typical business hours
