Energizer is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Zinc Air battery team. In this position you would be responsible for carrying out mechanical design and process components of Zinc Air battery development projects within Energizer, focusing on performance and cost improvements in line with Zinc Air roadmap goals.
Develop mechanical improvements to electrochemical cells (batteries) and support the mechanical changes required to accommodate chemistry changes in the cells.
Run pilot line trials, plant trials, and limited production runs.
Analyze data and draw supportable conclusions leading to the next steps
Develop mechanical knowledge of all battery components: stamped metal parts, injection-molded plastic parts, sheet materials, bulk materials, and the manufacturing processes, internal and external, used to make them.
Introduce manufacturing processes and materials to plants.
Evaluate battery performance and reliability
Apply statistical methods to experimental design.
Prepare data for review to justify production runs. Make recommendations based on data.
Prepare reports and presentations documenting work and progress.
Follow project plans developed by senior staff; contribute to the development of project plans.
Design mechanical components to meet project goals; obtain samples, evaluate for agreement with design intent and specification; build complete cells and variations and evaluate success.
As required, collaborate with both outside suppliers, collaborators, and customers, as well as in-house experts and resources.
Help to monitor the accuracy and quality of work in parts of the project.
Analyze and summarize experimental information, communicating the results and project status in the form of presentations and reports.
Follow technology roadmaps to meet objectives in a timely manner. Work in parallel with process development, product development, and implementation resources to ensure capable transfer to the product.
Required Skills and Experience
B.S. or M.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline is required.
Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software is required.
Industry experience is preferred but not required.
Ability to apply fundamental engineering and scientific principles to familiar and new situations.
Results-oriented, proactive, able to work both independently and on teams.
Eagerness to take a hands-on approach to prototype and learning or identifying problems.
Strong analytical skills, ability to draw conclusions and determine strategies based on data.
Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Skills and Experience
Solidworks or Autodesk Inventor CAD experience
Experience in designing: stamped metal components, injection-molded plastic components, sealed assemblies, battery housings
Experience in scale-up projects and project management
Strong statistical skills, experience with Minitab (or equivalent).
Design of experiments (DOE) experience.
Statistical process control (SPC) and manufacturing quality control (Infinity QS).
Familiarity with Microsoft Project.
Working Relationships & Environment
Reports to Staff Technology Engineer – Battery R&D.
Key relationships internally include all of R&D, pilot line, analytical, and operations groups.
Working conditions are an R&D laboratory and office environment. The use of proper PPE is required in certain circumstances.
Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel domestically up to 15% of the time
